Bourse drops 0.63 percent; OTE tumbles

Equities fell 0.63 percent yesterday along with global equity markets, while index heavyweight OTE Telecom tumbled after going ex-dividend. OTE Telecom fell 5.53 percent to 15.38 euros. The company received shareholder approval on Wednesday for a 0.7043-euro dividend per share for 2001. Telecoms in general dropped 3.07 percent. The Athens bourse’s benchmark general index slipped 0.63 percent to 2,179.63 points, falling for the eighth straight session. «Local institutionals were in the mood to go bargain hunting but performances on markets abroad kept this from taking place,» said a broker. The bourse’s FTSE/ASE-20 blue chip index lost 0.97 percent to 1,139.59 points. Mid-caps dropped 0.62 percent with small-caps shedding 0.06 percent. Turnover was 103.61 million euros on 18.3 million shares traded. Losers beat winners 186 to 114, while 57 shares were unchanged on 357 traded. (Reuters)
