Fresh plans about capital repatriation

The government is considering issuing incentives for the repatriation of Greek capital held abroad, according to Finance Minister Giorgos Papaconstantinou. He says there is a possibility the government could choose this option. Although such efforts are not always successful, the issue will be part of the dialogue for the reform of the tax system. «I have a general reservation about similar amnesty measures, especially when they are not associated with very specific changes in the tax system,» the minister told a press conference yesterday. «However, we will discuss it,» he added. Papaconstantinou also stated there will be fresh incentives for taxpayers to seek receipts for all services and goods they acquire, while there are plans to introduce stricter penalties for tax evaders.
