Offers aim to draw shoppers ahead of sales

Although the winter sales season is not scheduled to start until January 15, a number of stores have launched special offers, including price cuts, in an attempt to drum up business after a disappointing Christmas season. Some stores have started offering price discounts of up to 50 percent as of this week, while others are putting aside goods for customers until the start of the sales period, therefore enabling shoppers to take advantage of the lower price. Industry sources said clothing and footwear retailers this Christmas saw revenues slump by up to 30 percent from last year’s levels. The country’s larger retailers, such as department store Attica, managed to perform better than their smaller peers.
