Late selling leads to losses

Sales registered at the end of yesterday’s bourse session wiped out earlier gains and reversed investor sentiment. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 2,315.31 points yesterday, declining by 0.53 percent from Friday’s close at 2,327.57 points. At midsession it had even posted gains of up to 1.69 percent. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index contracted by 0.74 percent to end at 1,194.04 points. In contrast, the small-cap index recorded a small rise of 0.16 percent. The biggest gains among blue chips were for the stocks of Ellaktor (up 1.94 percent), Mytilineos (1.79 percent) and Hellenic Petroleum (1.38 percent). Heading southward were the blue chips of Titan cement (down 4.50 percent), OPAP (3.16 percent) and National Bank (1.49 percent). Turnover amounted to 174 million euros.
