Stocks drop; bad week for banks

Greek equities fell 2.32 percent yesterday on further weakness in bank stocks as leading lenders National and Eurobank fell more than 3 percent. The Athens bourse’s benchmark general index ended at 2,144.56 points, racking up losses of 7.86 percent for the week. Banks, which retreated 2.86 percent yesterday, ended 13.1 percent lower for the week. National Bank dropped 3.69 percent to 16.71 euros and Eurobank closed at 4.85 euros, off 3.68 percent. Bank of Cyprus fell 3.39 percent to 4.85 euros. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index dropped 2.71 percent to 1,084.50 points. PPC plummeted 4.41 percent to 13 euros Turnover dipped to 227.7 million euros versus 292 million in the previous session.
