Stocks drop to 8.5-month low

Greek stocks fell more than 2.5 percent yesterday, dropping to an 8.5-month low as banks continued to show steep losses. The Athens bourse’s benchmark general index gave up 2.53 percent to 2,090.29 points, after dipping to an intrasession low of 2,076 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index dropped 2.69 percent to 1,055.28 points. Banks shed 3.11 percent, bringing losses over the last week to 15.3 percent. Alpha Bank underperformed, dropping 7.74 percent to 7.15 euros. Piraeus Bank also tumbled, falling 4.53 percent to 7.16 euros. OTE telecom lost 2.49 percent, ending at 10.20 euros. Coca-Cola Hellenic moved 2.24 percent lower to 16.58 euros. Turnover reached 207.6 million euros versus 227 million in the previous session.
