Stock day ends at a low point

Despite a positive start to the day, with a favorable reaction by the market to the news of the government’s further measures for the economy, the local bourse ended the session on a low. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 2,018.98 points yesterday, shrinking 1.92 percent from Tuesday’s close at 2,058.41 points. By mid-session, the index had even grown by 2.13 percent to exceed 2,100 points before starting to slide. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index dropped by 2.11 percent to end at 1,017.02 points. The only blue chip to buck the trend and post gains was Intralot (up 3.51 percent). The biggest losses were for Viohalco stocks (down 5.06 percent), Marfin Investment Group (4.85 percent) and Coca-Cola HBC (3.20 percent). Turnover reached 254.4 million euros.
