Government mulls fuel price ceiling

As fuel prices soar across Greece after the increase in consumption tax, the government is contemplating the imposition of a price ceiling. The General Secretariat of Commerce of the Economy Ministry in coordination with the General Secretariat of Energy of the Environment and Energy Ministry are proceeding to systematic monitoring of the fuel market to check on prices after a 14 percent hike in the price of gasoline and a 6 percent rise in the price of diesel. Meanwhile the federation of gas station owners stated yesterday this is the first time a tax rise was announced one week before it was imposed, ‘allowing some to stock up on fuel at the lower taxation in order to sell it for a higher profit.’
