Stocks reverse gains, banks slip

Greek equities failed to consolidate mid-session gains yesterday as selling pressure in banks helped tip the market into negative territory for the day. The Athens bourse’s benchmark general index eased 0.03 percent to 1,940.31 points after reaching an intra-session high of 1,981 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index dipped 0.71 percent to 968.31 points. Piraeus Bank lost 2.61 percent to end at 5.97 euros and Alpha Bank dipped 4.11 percent to 6.76 euros. Coca-Cola Hellenic jumped 5.22 percent to 16.92 euros while power company PPC advanced 2.12 percent to 12.06 euros. Turnover dipped to 227.4 million euros, compared to 385 million in the previous session.
