Bourse ends off 2.21 percent

After two days of strong gains and as optimism gave way to further skepticism, the local bourse posted losses at the end of yesterday’s session. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 2,015.96 points yesterday, declining by 2.21 percent from Monday’s close at 2,061.04 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index contracted by 2.85 percent to end at 995.39 points. Among blue chips, there was growth for gaming operator OPAP (up 1.6 percent), thanks to expectations of revenues in tomorrow’s Joker draw after last Sunday’s jackpot, as well as for Motor Oil (12.6 percent) and Ellaktor (1.22 percent). The worst off were Viohalco (down 5.56 percent), Alpha Bank (5.33 percent), Piraeus Bank (4.96 percent) and National Bank (4.83 percent). Turnover amounted to 150.4 million euros.
