Slide continues on local bourse

Investors maintained their bearish mood on the local bourse, taking the market’s main index to below the 2,000-point level, despite the favorable climate on foreign bourses. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,987.36 points yesterday, declining by 1.40 percent from Tuesday’s closure at 2,015.96 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index contracted by 2.05 percent to end at 974.96 points. The biggest gains among blue chips were for the stocks of the Public Power Corporation (up 6.91 percent) and gaming operator OPAP (1.40 percent). In contrast, there were losses for EFG Eurobank (down 5.15 percent) and National Bank (3.99 percent) after Goldman Sachs lowered its price estimate from 5.70 to 5.10 euros for the former and from 11.20 to 10.10 euros for the latter. Turnover amounted to 187.1 million euros.
