Stocks drop to below 2,000 pts
Greek stocks lost 1.64 percent yesterday, dropping to below the 2,000-point mark, as rising bond spreads continued to make investors nervous. The Athens bourse’s benchmark general index ended at 1,995.24 points, closing the week up 0.20 percent. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index slipped 2.23 percent to 981.60 points. Banks lost 3.39 percent, led by a 4.83 percent decline in Eurobank to 6.30 euros. Hellenic Postbank gave up 4.09 percent to 3.75 euros and Bank of Cyprus retreated by 3.48 percent to 4.72 euros. Alpha Bank tumbled 3.79 percent to 6.35 euros. Turnover fell to 145.4 million euros versus 226 million euros in the previous session.
