Task of assessing damage begins

Tourists witness some of the damage to property caused by Wednesday’s violent demonstrations in central Athens. Initial estimates show that the damage incurred by the City of Athens exceeds 1 million euros. However, experts believe that the country’s tourism sector may suffer due to the scenes of violence flashed across the world, saying that ‘people will think twice about visiting Greece this summer.’ Tourism accounts for some 16 percent of Greece’s gross domestic product and about one in five jobs.
