Cosco chief eyeing local investments

China’s Cosco, which runs cargo operations at the port of Piraeus, is considering moving its European head offices to Athens from Hamburg, Germany, according to sources. The possible move is among the topics Captain Wei Jiafu, president and chief executive officer of the China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company (Cosco), will discuss with Prime Minister George Papandreou later this week. During a five-day visit to Athens scheduled to begin tomorrow, Jiafu is expected to also meet with other senior Greek government officials to discuss possible investments in Greece in logistics and shipbuilding activities. The Cosco CEO is also likely to meet with Infrastructure Minister Dimitris Reppas as well as Finance Minister Giorgos Papaconstantinou.
