Stocks rise on buoyed sentiment

Greek stocks showed solid growth yesterday on blue chip gains with sentiment boosted by advancing global markets. The Athens bourse’s benchmark general index rose 3.38 percent to 1,595.21 points but failed to clear the 1,600-point resistance level. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index charged ahead 3.32 percent to 760.91 points. Coca-Cola Hellenic (CCH) rose 7 percent to 18.99 euros after the company said that it may make an acquisition by the end of the year, as it seeks to expand its water and juice portfolio to boost sales. «We are always open to such opportunities but… there should be a country which must be available, the bottler must be willing to sell its rights and Coca-Cola should agree on that,»Doros Constantinou, CCH’s managing director, told a shareholders meeting. «We never know [what happens] by the end of the year.» OTE telecom also advanced, rising 5.12 percent to 6.57 euros, and power company PPC added 3.17 percent to 13.35 euros. Jeweler Folli Follie jumped 14.14 percent to 15.98 euros. Banks gained 2.73 percent. Turnover eased to 84.5 million euros from 129 million in the previous session.
