PPC’s electricity charges…

A man is seen heading toward a hydroelectric plant owned by state-controlled Public Power Corporation in this file photo. The Environment, Energy and Climate Change Ministry said yesterday that it had suspended an automatic link adjusting PPC’s electricity charges to its fuel costs, because the measure led to higher power bills for consumers. The government regulates the prices charged for power by the state-controlled utility, which controls 97 percent of the country’s retail electricity market. ‘It was deemed necessary to take measures to protect consumers from higher living costs,’ the ministry said in a statement.
