Fuel prices…

Costis Hatzidakis, who served as development minister under the previous New Democracy government, accused the ruling Socialists yesterday of failing to implement market checks to help contain hikes in fuel prices. «Greece is one of the two most expensive nations in the European Union for fuel prices, while last year it was in ninth position,» said the ex-minister, who has also served as a member of the European Parliament. Following a series of tax hikes aimed at shoring up state revenues and slashing the government’s massive budget deficit, unleaded fuel has hit 1.50 euros per liter, up from about 1 euro at the end of last year.
