Code-share deal to give more choices in Italy

Olympic Air (OA) announced yesterday it will work with Meridiana Fly, Italy’s second-largest airline, on a code-share agreement, allowing each carrier’s passengers more traveling options between Greece and Italy. ‘OA will promote tickets on selected flights of Meridiana Fly. These flights will be operated by Meridiana’s aircraft and crew,’ the Greek airline said in a statement. ‘Similarly, Meridiana Fly will sell and promote Olympic Air flights… that will be operated by OA aircraft and crew,’ the statement continued. OA, owned by Marfin Investment Group, operates flights to 32 Greek destinations and 13 international cities. The Italian airline, whose shares are listed on the Milan Stock Exchange, serves a total of 87 destinations, of which 48 are to international spots. OA said in February it will merge with local rival Aegean Airlines in a deal currently being assessed by European Union competition authorities.
