Marginal gains for local stocks

Late-session buying helped push the Athens bourse into positive territory yesterday but small-caps underperformed, slipping marginally. The Athens Exchange’s benchmark general index added 0.30 percent to end at 1,471.04 points. It shed 5.42 percent for the month of September. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index firmed 0.16 percent to 707.05 points. Banks added 0.22 percent. National Bank dipped 0.83 percent to 7.17 euros but Eurobank EFG rose 4.74 percent to 4.42 euros. Emporiki Bank fell 0.49 percent to a low of 2.05 euros. OTE telecom also dropped to a new low of 5.28 euros, ending the session 0.38 percent in the red. Power company PPC retreated 0.61 percent to 11.43 euros. The small-cap FTSE/ATHEX 80 index dipped 0.03 percent after shedding almost 1 percent on Wednesday. Turnover reached 138.7 million euros versus 103.7 million in the previous session.
