Coastal shipping service…

Irakleia is one of the small islands in the Aegean Sea that runs the risk of being left without any coastal shipping service as of November 1 as the existing contracts expire at the end of October and the Coastal Transport Council has not yet planned any meetings on any new contracts. The delay is due to the confusion created by the split of the competent ministry, while the competencies of the new Maritime Affairs, Islands and Fisheries Ministry have not yet been defined. Unless the council meets soon, emergency contracts will be needed in order to service the country’s smaller islands.
