Smoking ban problems…
One-two punch. With restaurants struggling to survive in the recession, the recently introduced smoking ban has created further problems for the sector. According to restaurateurs’ group POESE, its members have seen turnover drop by up to 40 percent recently, and things are likely to get worse. ‘If we add to this the expected drop brought about by a smoking ban [the average drop in Europe is 25 percent], then thousands of businesses in the sector are at risk of shutting down,’ it said.
