Hotel bargains near ski centers for festive season

Hoteliers across Greece are freezing their prices or, in many cases, lowering them significantly in a bid to increase occupancy rates for the Christmas and New Year period, as bookings have dropped considerably compared to last year. Even at hotels near ski centers that tend to be very popular during the festive season, such as that pictured at Tria-Pente Pigadia in Macedonia, one can easily find a room without booking. Costas Leventis, president of the Hoteliers Association of Magnesia, central Greece, says there are rooms available at hotels on Mt Pilio for an average price of 70 euros per night. Hotel owners in Evrytania and Arachova in central Greece and Kalavryta in the Peloponnese, all located close to ski centers, report the same, while some of them have lowered their prices by up to 15 percent. Occupancy rates in Kalavryta range between 70 and 80 percent, Dinos Dafalias, the head of the local hoteliers’ association, suggests.
