Thessaloniki Port eyes Israeli market
Thessaloniki Port Authority (OLTH) said yesterday that it will take part in a tourism exhibition in Israel where it will look into promoting the northern Greek city as a cruise ship destination. Thessaloniki could promote itself in Israel due to ‘historical ties with the Jewish community,’ OLTH said in a statement, without adding further details. About a century ago, Thessaloniki was home to a large Jewish community which has since dropped to just a few thousand people. The news comes a day after Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman visited Athens, where officials agreed to boost trade between the two nations.
