Syrian refugees find temporary shelter in Exarchia neighborhood

Syrian refugees from Aleppo (l to r) Abu Habib, 24, Majd Ahmad, 26, and Abu Rmosh, 30, sit at the alternative neighborhood of Exarchia in Athens on Friday, home to many Syrian refugees in NGO-leased apartments or in squats run by anarchist movements. Abu says he lost his wife and two children aged between one and three years in the bombings in Aleppo a few weeks ago, when he was already in Greece. After the military service, he was forcibly enlisted in the army, he made military prison. Once released, he left. "I lost everything, my family, my life", he confides, "and I feel guilty for leaving my parents and cousins". His parents are on the Aleppo side controlled by the regime. [Louisa Gouliamaki/AFP]
