Inspectors to hunt for undeclared, uninsured employees in tourist areas

Labor Ministry inspectors, such as those seen in this file photo during an inspection at Athens International Airport, will conduct a total of 18,000 inspections in a bid to find out how many employers use undeclared and uninsured employees, Labor Minister Yiannis Vroutsis and other officials decided Thursday. The inspections will focus on areas popular with tourists, especially the islands, and on the many establishments that have announced layoffs during August. Some of these layoffs are fictitious and those employers have simply stopped paying employees’ social security contributions.
