Possible Afghan link with banks
The government effectively confirmed yesterday a report in To Vima daily claiming that the names of four Afghans on an international list of suspected terrorists have been linked with accounts in Greek banks. Government spokesman Dimitris Reppas said a preliminary check of the list sent to Greek banks by the European Central Bank turned up names that match holders of Greek accounts. A preliminary check showed that there are accounts in the names of foreign nationals, whose names seem to bear similarities with names of citizens on lists of suspected terrorists, Reppas said. But these accounts do not contain significant amounts of money… They could not fund (terrorist) activities, for their content is, so to say, insignificant. Reppas added that Greek officials are cooperating with their foreign counterparts on the matter. These matters can be discussed no further in public.
