US ambassador meets with military officials
US Ambassador Thomas Miller visited the Defense Ministry yesterday – his second such visit in a week – and met with the chairman of the combined chiefs of staff, Gen. Manoussos Parayioudakis. Sources said that the two discussed the possibility of the Greek military contingent in the Balkans being increased in order to relieve US troops which are expected to leave for the theater of operations in Central Asia. Miller and Parayioudakis discussed international terrorism as well as Greek-American and Greek-Turkish relations. The ambassador met also with navy, air force and army chiefs of staff and discussed the facilities that Greece is providing the USA, including use of the Souda Bay naval base and allowing flyovers of US and allied aircraft as well as providing Greek naval vessels for the operations.
