Security measures at all likely targets

A police officer keeps guard at the entrance of the Athens Stock Exchange yesterday, part of the increased security measures that have been taken at all likely targets across Greece since the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States. Unprecedented security is being provided for buildings that might be targeted and for public transportation and utilities where attacks would place large numbers of citizens in danger. Many people, who might be specific targets, are also being provided with increased protection. The ambassador met also with navy, air force and army chiefs of staff and discussed the facilities that Greece is providing the USA, including use of the Souda Bay naval base and allowing flyovers of US and allied aircraft as well as providing Greek naval vessels for the operations.
