Albanian robber pays for loyalty to bank

Athens police yesterday put an end to the highly lucrative working holidays of an Albanian tourist who allegedly robbed four banks in as many days since entering Greece on Sunday. Ariel Dodaz, 31, was arrested shortly before noon yesterday outside a Commercial Bank branch on Kifissias Avenue in Maroussi, from which he had just emerged with 30,000 euros after staging an armed robbery. Police believe Dodaz, who entered Greece legally on a tourist visa, was responsible for another three Athens heists – all at Commercial Bank branches – on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. After the third robbery, officers stepped up security at Commercial branches, and moved in with lightning speed after the fourth heist. Dodaz’s alleged four-day spree netted him a total of 124,800 euros.
