Hundreds fined for defying restrictions

Hundreds of people were fined and three were arrested in just 24 hours during spot checks in different parts of the country aimed at monitoring compliance with coronavirus restrictions.

The Hellenic Police said in an announcement on Tuesday that its officers and teams from other state services like the municipal police, carried out nearly 39,600 inspections on Monday, of which 6,638 were at Athens International Airport.

A total of 692 violations of public health safety measures were confirmed, the vast majority of which – 531 – pertained to movement restrictions, carrying a fine of 300 euros.

Most of the 692 violations were reported in western Greece (101), followed by Thessaloniki (81) and Attica (60).
