New leads guide police to pawn shop killers
Thessaloniki police on Saturday tracked down two men behind the murder of the 26-year-old daughter of a pawn-shop owner two years ago, after fresh leads led them to the duo. Officers arrested Alexandros Alexoudis, 41, and Argyris Skoutelas, 31 – both from the village of Aigeiro in the northeastern prefecture of Rhodope – after new evidence was revealed last Tuesday on journalist Panos Sombolos’s television program «Eyewitness» on Mega Channel. The pair admitted to the murder of Lefkothea Tsenekidou on February 22, 2001. One of the men went to the shop in the morning and gained her confidence. He returned with his accomplice later, ostensibly to buy jewelry. When she let them in, they allegedly stabbed her to death and robbed the shop. Jewelry, believed to be from the shop, was found in the men’s homes.
