Athens police officer sparks alarm in Lesvos

When Lesvos police arrived at a boarding house at Pyrgi Thermis after the owner was threatened by a gun-toting visitor, they found they had arrested a fellow officer who was visiting his daughter, the Athens News Agency reported yesterday. When the owner of the boarding house, which used by female students at the Aegean University, noticed a stranger coming and going from the building, he asked him for his name and identity card. The man allegedly lost his temper, insulted him and pulled out a revolver without identifying himself. Responding to a call, heavily-armed police sped to the scene and arrested Emmanouil Sarandaris, 50, who turned out to be a police officer from Athens, who was visiting his daughter who lodges in the house. The agency did not say when the incident occurred or if Sarandaris was charged.
