Court acquits Israelis over Souda Bay photos

A court in Hania, Crete, yesterday found four Israeli citizens innocent of charges of photographing a forbidden military area near the nearby naval base at Souda Bay. The three men and a woman were arrested at Hersonissos, near Iraklion, on Thursday after security personnel had spotted three Middle Eastern people in a rented car taking photographs near the US base on Tuesday. The area is on heightened alert in case of terrorist attack. The four told the court that they did not know about the ban on taking photographs in the area, as the spot had no warning signs. This was accepted by the court. The Israeli Embassy issued a statement before the verdict, saying that All allegations attributed to them are completely false. The four individuals arrested are simple tourists who were on an organized company vacation in Crete.
