Saddam is told his time is up

Foreign Minister George Papandreou, on an EU-backed tour of three Middle East countries, yesterday called on Iraqi President Saddam Hussein to comply with UN demands to reveal any hidden weapons of mass destruction. «Time is running out for Saddam Hussein,» he said after a meeting with Jordan’s King Abdullah in Amman. «Now is the time for him to comply.» He added that Arab countries felt Saddam did not understand the urgency, The Associated Press reported. Papandreou called for extra effort to revive the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, saying a «road map» for peace devised by the European Union, USA, Russia and the United Nations must «move forward as soon as possible.» Papandreou was in Syria on Sunday and flew to Lebanon later yesterday. British PM Tony Blair telephoned Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and prime ministers Silvio Berlusconi of Italy, Jose Maria Aznar of Spain and Costas Simitis of EU president Greece to brief them on his talks with US President George Bush last week.
