Fire on Naxos largely contained

A wildfire broke out on Monday morning in grassland at a mountainous area on the island of Naxos, in the South Aegean, the fire service said.

Authorities said that the flames were far from the village of Apeiranthos, the closest residential area.

Fourteen firefighters with six vehicles and two aircraft were called at the scene and managed by noon to largely contain the blaze.
