Greek police nab man wanted over murder in Belgium, fraud in Spain

A man belived to be a fugitive wanted on two European arrest warrants has been picked up in southern Greece, the police said in an announcement on Tuesday.

Described only as a foreign national, the 51-year-old is wanted in Belgium, where he was convicted of murder in 1999 and sentenced to 25 years in prison. 

He is also wanted by the authorities in Spain, where he faces six years in prison for fraud committed in 2008.

According to Tuesday’s announcement, the 51-year-old was arrested in South Kynouria in Arcadia in the Peloponnese on Monday by officers acting on a tipoff.

He allegedly presented the police officers with a driving license and identity card that were found to be forgeries, earning himself additional charges of fraud.
