Operation underway to rescue migrants stuck on Aegean islet

A operation was underway by Greece’s Coast Guard on Wednesday to rescue 31 migrants stuck on an islet off the northeastern coast of Lesvos, in the eastern Aegean.

The 25 men, five women and newborn baby were found on the islet of Barbalias by a patrolling Coast Guard vessel.

The migrants, most of whom are believed to be from Eritrea, will be transferred to the port of Mytilene.
