Akar calls for talks without outside ‘interference’
A day after meeting with his Greek counterpart in Brussels, Turkey’s Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said the two Aegean neighbors should resolve their disagreements without outside “interference,” while calling for a resumption of talks that aim to build confidence between the two countries.
Stressing Turkey’s alleged commitment to peace and good neighborly relations, Akar called for “a comprehensive and permanent solution” in the disputes between Greece and Turkey.
“We are NATO allies. We need to solve our problems on our own,” Akar said.
“It is important that the dispute between Turkey and Greece is resolved without the interference of third parties,” the Turkish foreign minister said adding that the two sides must “focus on a positive agenda.”
Akar also expressed hope that talks on confidence building measures (CBM) between the two countries can resume.
