Body of man found off the coast of Rethymno identified
A body found in the sea off the coast of Rethymno, Crete, was identified on Thursday as belonging to a 67-year-old man who disappeared on April 13 this year.
Authorities said his identity was established through a DNA test.
The missing man had been a passenger on the Kissamos ferry, which runs the Souda-Piraeus route. At some point, under unclear circumstances, he fell into the sea while the ship was sailing 17.7 nautical miles southeast of Hydra. A search and rescue operation had not been able to locate him.
His body was found off on May 13 off the Geropotamos beach, in the region of Rethymno.
His daughter filed a missing person’s report with the police.
