Protesters clash with police; 33 detained

A brief clash between protesters and police in Syntagma Square early Saturday afternoon resulted in 33 people being detained, police said.
A small group of people calling themselves “National Constituent Assembly – Direct Democracy” gathered at Athens’ main square despite a prohibition on gatherings for the day by the police. Some of the protesters threw objects at riot police, who pushed up using tear gas, state broadcaster ERT reported.
