Stolen truck leaves trail of destruction
Athens police were yesterday seeking a young couple believed to have been in a stolen truck that, just before midnight on Sunday, careered at high speed through a residential area bouncing off at least 60 parked cars before jolting to a halt on a busy Zografou road. Traffic police believe the young man who was driving the heavy vehicle must have been under the influence of drugs when he set off on his tour of destruction along Louloudion and Georgiou Papandreou streets, which caused an estimated 90,000 euros’ worth of damage. People who saw the truck blundering past gave chase, but by the time they caught up with it on the corner of Papandreou and Yiannopoulou streets the couple had fled on foot. The vehicle had been stolen from a construction site at Kaza, on the eastern outskirts of the capital.
