Heavy congestion hits major arteries across Athens
Drivers in Athens faced severe delays Wednesday as major city arteries were heavily congested, with vehicles at times completely immobilized.
In central Athens, heavy traffic was reported on Ardittou, Stadiou, Panepistimiou, P. Tsaldari and Agiou Konstantinou avenues, all reaching “red” levels. On the Kifisos highway, traffic backed up in both directions from Aigaleo to at least Metamorfosi, while Kifisias Avenue saw very low speeds in both directions from the Marousi interchange to Ampelokipoi. Mesogeion Avenue also experienced slow traffic from Agia Paraskevi to Ampelokipoi.
Other congested routes included Syngrou Avenue northbound from Neos Kosmos, Poseidonos Avenue northbound near Elliniko and Vouliagmenis Avenue.
Traffic was also heavy across all major roads in Piraeus, leaving commuters facing extended travel times. Authorities have not reported any accidents, suggesting the congestion is due to high vehicle volume and peak-hour pressure.
