Chinese, Vietnamese nationals arrested for cannabis growing in Marathonas

Police in Ilioupoli, southern Athens, and Marathonas, northeastern Attica, arrested five Chinese and two Vietnamese nationals for allegedly growing cannabis plants last Friday.

According to officers, the suspects, aged 35 to 51, had set up three large greenhouses in Marathonas for the production of a potent form of the drug, known as skunk, using hydroponic gardening equipment.

Authorities said that the gang’s leaders owned a Chinese restaurant in Ilioupoli which acted as a front for their illegal activities.

The suspects were also tied to another case of cannabis production in Glyfada and Voula uncovered in January, police said.
