Thessaloniki trash problem eases

Local authorities in Thessaloniki said on Monday that hundreds of tons of trash which had been littering the streets of the northern port city for more than two weeks had finally been cleaned up following the mobilization of army trucks to help with the operation.

Seven military vehicles were enlisted as most of the city?s 75 municipal trash collection trucks had been off the road awaiting repairs. Deputy Mayor Stathis Avramidis said yesterday that 24 trucks were now roadworthy and would be keeping the city?s trash levels under control.
