Miltiadis Evert dies at 72

Miltiadis Evert, a founding member and former president of the New Democracy party, died at an Athens hospital yesterday. He was 72.

Evert was elected a parliamentary deputy in 1974, Athens mayor in 1986 and president of New Democracy in 1993, a post he held until 1997. He retired from politics in 2009.
