Ministry mulls extension to property declarations
The Environment Ministry is reportedly thinking about extending the deadline for homeowners to declare illegally altered parts of their home, known as imyipaithrioi in Greek.
Sources said that the ministry has warmed to the idea of pushing back the end of February deadline to give more people the chance to take advantage of the scheme, which has earned the government several hundred million euros so far.
In the last 20 days, some 100,000 homeowners have submitted their paperwork, taking the total to more than 500,000 but also creating backlogs at town planning offices.
