Commuters face more upheaval on Friday

Commuters face another day of transport disruption in Athens on Friday, and then again on Monday, as bus and trolley bus workers are to stage fresh walkouts.

On Friday, bus staff will walk off the job between 11 a.m. and 4.30 p.m. while trolley buses will be out of action from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Monday, bus staff will stage another walkout from 11 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. while trolley buses will not run between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.

It remains unclear when workers on the tram, metro and Piraeus-Kifissia electric railway will resume their action. Sources indicated on Thursday that the unions representing these workers would henceforth participate only in coordinated walkouts involving all public transport employees.

In a related development, the president of the union of bus workers, Nikos Kouloubaritsis, resigned from his post on Wednesday.
