New urban terror group believed to be joint venture
A previously unknown organization calling itself Group of Popular Rebels, which claimed responsibility on Wednesday for an assault rifle attack on conservative New Democracy’s headquarters last January, is believed by police to be a joint venture between members of other guerrilla groups such Popular Revolutionary Army and Popular Will and the better-known Revolutionary Struggle, whose leader Nikos Maziotis has been at large for a year.
Police said that the style of the new proclamation was reminiscent in parts of others signed by Revolutionary Struggle, including its claim that it attacked the Athens Stock Exchange in September 2009.
