Unknown group claims January hit on ND HQ
An unknown group calling itself Group of Popular Rebels claimed responsibility on Wednesday, in a proclamation uploaded onto the Indymedia website, for a bloodless assault rifle attack on conservative New Democracy’s headquarters on Syggrou Avenue in January.
In the 19-page document, the group said it had tried to hit the building using a rocket propelled grenade which failed to function and subsequently used a Kalashnikov rifle to fire at the office window of ND leader and Prime Minister Antonis Samaras.
The author said the group had delayed the release of the proclamation to allow time for it to improve its relations with other organizations. The proclamation also expressed support for the suspects being detained in connection with an arson attack last February on the premises of the Hellas Gold mine in Skouries, Halkidiki.
