Pensioner questioned over ex-minister attack

A pensioner has been detained and is being questioned in connection with an attack on former Transport Minister Costis Hatzidakis last December.

The politican suffered a cut to the head when he was set upon during a union rally on December 15, 2010.

The 68-year-old retired OTE telecoms worker allegedly admitted to hitting the former minister, saying he was enraged at the time.

Police are seeking a second assailant but their task has been made more complicated by Hatzidakis’s refusal at the time to press charges or to be examined by a doctor, meaning that the police could not publish photos of the suspected attackers.
